## Short answer

You don't do it yourself: every Recharge migration is done by our team, free of charge. We set up Zubs based on your current Recharge setup, then move your subscriptions with their prices, schedules, next billing dates, order counts and the payment methods saved in Shopify. Prepaid subscriptions can stay prepaid, your customers get no confusing emails about the move, and Zubs costs you less than Recharge.

## What does white-glove migration from Recharge mean?

Our team does the whole move for you, free of charge. We look at how your subscriptions run in Recharge today (plans, prices, discounts, the customer portal, emails and connected tools) and set up Zubs to match before a single subscription moves. Then we move your subscribers across and end their old subscriptions in Recharge. Your part is a few decisions and a date.

## What is Zubs built for?

Zubs is a subscription app for Shopify stores whose subscriptions are more than a repeat order:

- **Boxes customers fill themselves.** With [build-a-box](https://zubs.app/features/build-a-box), subscribers pick the items for every delivery in the customer portal.
- **Pickup and delivery.** Subscribers switch between a [pickup location](https://zubs.app/features/subscription-pickup-locations) and home delivery themselves.
- **Stock held for renewals.** Zubs [reserves the units](https://zubs.app/features/inventory-reservation) your subscribers need before each billing date.
- **Keeping subscribers.** An [offer when they cancel](https://zubs.app/features/cancellation-flow), and [payment retries](https://zubs.app/features/dunning) on your schedule.
- **Automations.** Subscription events go to [Shopify Flow](https://zubs.app/features/shopify-flow-subscriptions) and Klaviyo.
- **A team you can reach.** Our team answers on Slack, email, WhatsApp or phone, whichever suits you, and shares what we've learned from running subscription programs with other stores.
- **Made in Germany.** Zubs GmbH runs on EU servers, and the portal and emails come in German, English and other European languages.

## What do you do, and what does our team do?

**You:**

1. **Book a migration call.** There's nothing to install beforehand.
2. **Give us access to Shopify and Recharge**: collaborator access to your store and access to Recharge, so we can set up Zubs and read your current setup and subscriptions.
3. **Review the test run** with us and agree the date of the switch.
4. **Cancel your Recharge billing** once your subscribers are on Zubs.

**Our team:**

1. **Setup.** We install Zubs in your store and set up your subscription plans, pricing, customer portal, notifications and integrations in Zubs based on your Recharge setup, and check your shipping and pickup settings with you.
2. **Test run.** We run the migration as a test first and go through the result with you before anything goes live.
3. **Switchover.** We move your subscriptions to Zubs and end the old ones in Recharge, so Recharge doesn't charge or ship anything afterwards and nobody is charged twice.

## What carries over from Recharge to Zubs?

Your subscriptions move to Zubs, Recharge bundles included. Where a customer has several Recharge subscriptions that ship together, we combine them into one:

| In Recharge | In Zubs after the migration |
| ------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Customer and shipping address | Linked to the customer's existing Shopify account, with the same address |
| Products and quantities, including bundles | The same products; bundles keep the items the customer selected |
| Price and discounts | The price the customer paid in Recharge, and most discounts; we go through your discounts with you before the switch |
| Frequency and next billing date | The same frequency and next billing date; combined subscriptions bill on the earliest of their dates |
| Shipping or local pickup | Shipping, or pickup at the same location |
| Orders already received | The subscription's order count, so [sequential flows](https://zubs.app/features/sequential-flows) continue |
| Saved payment method | Reused when it is stored in Shopify (see the next section) |
| [Prepaid subscription](https://zubs.app/glossary/prepaid-subscription) | Stays prepaid, or becomes a regular subscription (see below) |

## Do subscribers have to re-enter their card details?

No, as long as your Recharge store uses Shopify's checkout. Then your customers' cards are already saved in Shopify, and the new subscription in Zubs uses the same payment method. We check how your store takes payments with you before anything moves.

## What happens to Recharge prepaid subscriptions?

You choose. Prepaid subscriptions can stay prepaid in Zubs, or we convert them into regular subscriptions that bill per delivery. When we convert them, the deliveries a customer has already paid for but not yet received stay free, so nobody pays twice.

## Will your customers get confusing emails?

No. We make sure neither Recharge nor Zubs sends your customers emails about the switch, and we go through your connected tools, such as Klaviyo, Shopify Flow or an SMS tool, with you beforehand.

After the switch, your subscribers' next order bills on the date it was due in Recharge. From then on they manage their subscription in the [Zubs customer portal](https://zubs.app/features/customer-portal): they skip or reschedule an order, swap products or update their address, depending on the actions you turn on.

## How did TryMoin's move from Recharge go?

TryMoin had run its subscriptions on Recharge for years. We moved its active subscriptions, billing schedules and customer accounts in a single switchover, with no engineering work on TryMoin's side. Michael Arlt, its managing director, says his biggest concern beforehand was how much work the migration would be, and that it "turned out to be no work at all on our side, fully done-for-you". The full story is in the [TryMoin customer story](https://zubs.app/customers/trymoin).

## What does Zubs cost after the move?

Less than Recharge, and the move itself is free. Zubs charges 1% of subscriber GMV plus a monthly fee that depends on your store, so bring your current Recharge bill to the migration call and we'll make you a better offer, below what you pay Recharge today.

## Bottom line

A move from Recharge to Zubs is done by our team and free, and your subscribers keep their prices, schedules, saved payment methods and order counts without a confusing email. Your part is access to Shopify and Recharge, a review of the test run and a date, so [book a migration call](https://zubs.app/migration) to go through your setup with us.

## Frequently asked questions

### What does a migration from Recharge cost?

Nothing. Our team does the whole move for free, from setting up Zubs to ending the old subscriptions in Recharge. Zubs itself costs you less than Recharge: bring your current Recharge bill to the migration call and we'll beat it.

### Are paused or cancelled Recharge subscriptions migrated?

We migrate active subscriptions, and paused or cancelled ones too if you ask before the switch.

### Can prepaid subscriptions stay prepaid?

Yes. They can stay prepaid, or we convert them into regular subscriptions, and the deliveries a customer has already paid for stay free.

### Do sequential flows start over for migrated subscribers?

No. Each subscriber's order count comes along from Recharge, so a flow like "after the 3rd order" counts the orders they already received.

### Will my customers get an email about the move?

Not one that would confuse them; we make sure neither Recharge nor Zubs sends emails about the switch. We also go through your connected tools, such as Klaviyo or Shopify Flow, with you beforehand.
